Rambutan and Banana Milk Shake Recipe
The rambutan tree usually grows up to about 80 feet in height and thrives in tropical climates, mostly in Asia where these fruits are abundant. This plant has been cultivated in different parts of the globe as well. Rambutan trees have been planted in specific parts of Australia and Central America.3 Rambutan season actually occurs twice a year: from June to August and December to January.4
Rambutans are small red color fruits with spiky hair on the skin. In Malay, Rambut means hair, hence the name. Rambutan tree belongs to a group of tropical trees that bear fruits like Lychee, Mamoncillo and Longan. Rambutan has a sweet , juicy flesh which is slightly acidic and small brown coloured seeds .
Rambutan as a fruit is awesome due to its sweet and pleasant taste and can also be readily incorporated into smoothies , juices , salads and milk shakes. The Rambutan and Banana milk shake serves a great refreshing and energetic punch at the breakfast to start the day with or can be a perfect treat to reward oneself after a work out !

While Bananas are good for our heart, the carbohydrates and protein content of Rambutan help to increase energy and prevent bloating. Vitamin C in Rambutan helps in absorption of minerals, iron and copper.Rambutan is rich in water which not only quenches the thirst but also hydrates the body.
Ingredients
5-6 Rambutans
1 medium- sized ripe banana
1 tablespoon honey
1/2 cup crushed ice
3/4 cup low fat milk.
Method:
1. Peel and pit the Rambutans- make a small cut at the skin and just carefully peel the skin from the fruit and using your fingers dig into the flesh of the Rambutan to remove the pit. Now you will notice a very thin layer from the pit which remains attached to the fruit. do not try to remove it , as you may loose lot of juice in the process.
2. Add all the ingredients to a blender and puree until its smooth.
3. Serve immediately . Enjoy sipping the delicious and refreshing tropical milk shake !

You can replace milk with plain yogurt and enjoy the same recipe as a Rambutan and Banana Smoothie !
